Congratulations Jamie that you had the choice to be able to choose to have your baby at home! I would have loved to make that choice, but nature & my body took that option away from me when I had huge complications in both my pregnancies and I’ve no option but have my babies via surgery, but this wouldn’t have been my first choice. From an infection control point of view, you’re probably alot safer giving birth naturally in your own home. You’re surrounded by your own 'bugs' & 'germs' that have been with you all along, so are unlikely to cause you a problem now and there is no huge surgical wound to become infected. Also there are going to be less people intervening which means less chance of medical staff passing on bugs from their hands, clothes, etc. That you may never have come into contact with had you not had to attend a medical centre, which could potentially harm you. It’s much riskier to have your baby via c.section, due to the risks of infection surrounding it, also the blood loss and anaesthetic, type of post operative after care given, etc. As for motherhood destroying how beautiful you’re, it's quite a shallow outlook on life! What with stretch marks, varicose veins, haemmoroids, etc and all those other glorious things that come with pregnancy and then all the stretching or cutting of childbirth, to be concerned about how gorgeous you’re after all that, makes me wonder should these women even go in for becoming a mother in the first place???!!! My husband loves every stretch mark our babies have left on my body, as he says they’re achievements of carrying his babies for him that he’s so proud I was able to do…he would love to have experienced pregnancy first hand!!! So good for you that you were lucky enough to have a home birth, but don't slag off others who sometimes don't have any other way of having their baby. And for those who do have the choice and still choose surgery…you'll never know what a fantastic experience you're missing!!
Usually private doctors/centers will charge a higher rate than say a large corporation. Some places will offer a package deal where others may have a separate fee for preop, post op, surgery and other things such as punctal plugs and what not. Usually the biggest difference in cost is technology. Intralase ( blade less is more expensive, it has benefits such as taking away less corneal tissue and reduces risks associated with creating the flap ( thus, no blade) There have been studies that say intralase can cause photophobia, ( extreme sensitivity to light) I have worked for a laser center that uses intralase 98% of the time and I have never heard off a complaint like that other than the usual sensitivity that is normal while healing from the entire procedure. I personally had the keratome ( bladed) used for my eyes and didn’t have a problem ( only because at the time that was my only option) if intralase was available at the center I went to I probably would have went with that.
Hope I helped
